Heather Millard Bio

Heather Millard is an animal fanatic and grew up in the country with horses, cats, goats, ducks and of course, dogs in Northern BC.  She holds a black belt in the martial art of Shotokan Karate and before becoming a dog trainer, taught as a full-time instructor for several years. 

Heather graduated from Ben Kersen and the Wonderdogs' Professional Dog Trainers Program at the top of her class in 2003. She has worked for Ben since this time and currently teaches Group Sessions, the Professional Dog Trainers Program and Individual Training Lessons.  She also in is charge of all the business administration.

Heather has been an active competitor (at both regional and national levels) in the very demanding German dog sport of Schutzhund for the past 6 years.  She is currently working her dog at a SchH III level and holds the position of president of the Southern Vancouver Island Schutzhund Club.

Heather prides herself on keeping up to date on the latest training information and philosophies.  She has trained and attended seminars with some of the world's most esteemed trainers and uses this knowledge to ensure the success of each client she works with.  In addition, Heather draws on her husband's experience and knowledge as he has worked as a dog handler with the police for over 11 years.

Heather and her husband are the proud owners of 5 dogs.  Kuno is a 7 year old German shepherd and is Heather's now retired competition dog in Schutzhund.  Heather's husband has a 6 year old German shepherd who works as a police service dog. Ollie is a 3 year old Terrier X.  He and Heather focus on Freestyle dance and tricks together.  Conan is a German shepherd puppy being raised to sell as a police dog.  Kime is Heather's new Schuzthund prospect. She is also a German shepherd puppy.

Because 5 dogs just isn't enough, Heather also runs Ben Kersen and the Wonderdogs' Pet Hotel and Doggie Daycare.  She and her husband own a dog-friendly acreage in Metchosin where they are always happy to add another member to their pack.
